Exciting a localized beam in an Anderson localizing fiber results in a high degree of output spatial coherence. The fringe patterns resemble those from singlemode fibers, indicating that a single localized mode is predominantly excited.We demonstrate single-mode ZBLAN optical fiber couplers. The controlled tapering procedure leads to coupling ratios of 5%/95% and 14%/86% at a wavelength of 2.2 µm, with insertion losses of 1.6 dB and 1.8 dB, respectively.
