The Arikaree Breaks are a rugged landscape of canyons that have formed in a type of windblown silt called loess. In general, this loess was deposited by the wind during the past few million years. Loess is often rich in clay minerals, which allows these deposits to hold together and form a steep face.Historical home constructed in 1892 and is the only known Adobe House sitting on its original site in Kansas. This earthen walled structure is preserved as a museum and is located within Prairie Dog State Park. The Adobe House was constructed our of a mixture of mud and straw. A horse was used, traveling in a circular trench in which dirt, water and straw were added.
