You should have the doors at the intersection of the walls. I believe that will take slightly fewer doors, while still having your dwarves traipsing through each others rooms. Oh, and a 2x2 stairwell in the center of an 11x11 room grid would be 120 rooms and only 3 tiles wider than your 10x10 room grid with 98 rooms.Dwarfs having private bedrooms makes them more happy but you can construct one big dormitory for them all to live in to meet their sleeping needs too. A lot of bedrooms, but dwarfs sleeping on the floor. So, my fortress had a population explosion, from 40 to 180 in less than a year. I did great bedrooms for all the new citizens, 3x3 polished stones with beds, doors, and some of them even have cabinets and chests already. Even then, they didn't claim their spot!
