STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Exit 22 ramp from the Staten Island-bound Gowanus Expressway to the eastbound Belt Parkway will be closed on Thursday and Friday night, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.Built in the 1940s by the Triborough Bridge Authority, the Gowanus Parkway, shown at left, was widened to a six-lane expressway in the 1960s. Part of the Expressway viaduct was built using the original foundations from the elevated subway that ran along Third Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
