In 2005 we created the Monarch Waystation program in part to compensate for the loss of milkweeds and nectar sources and in 2010 we created the Bring Back the Monarchs program to address the larger issue of restoring milkweeds in areas from which they have been eliminated.Tagging Kits may be ordered at any time and they are shipped beginning August 1st to arrive ahead of the migration. Tagging Kits are available from the Monarch Watch Shop at shop.monarchwatch.org or by phone at 1-800-780-9986. An order form may also be downloaded and faxed or mailed using the contact information on the form. Waystation Certification Application. The numbers of sightings in 2012 was >2x the number in 2013. The expectation therefore was that the population in 2012 would increase, but it declined. In Kerrville, Monarchs were migrating along the Guadalupe River, stopping to nectar on Bidens and Blue mistflower (see photos below). The last migrating Monarch we saw in TX was in Ozona. We crossed the state line into New Mexico on Oct 21. I continued to watch for those orange beauties as we drove west toward AZ.
