You choose either a capstone or thesis track as well as the creative writing and literature courses that meet your learning goals.Our workshops integrate contemporary literature with creative exploration. In addition to poetry and fiction, we offer workshops and literature courses in areas such as nonfiction, travel writing, oral literature and narratology. Our PhD is a theoretical doctorate: an experience that builds creative thinking alongside critical reading and research. The English Graduate program in the School of Humanities offers both MA and Ph.D. degrees, with emphasis in literature or creative writing. Both provide engaged course and workshop experiences, making for a lively and dynamic intellectual environment. We offer competitive assistantships up to $17,000 for PhD students.
