May 1, 2015 · The trace fossil Zoophycos typically consist of one or more lobate spreiten arranged around a central axis, often marked by a vertical shaft (Häntzschel, 1975, Uchman, 1995). The spreite is made up of a large number of lamellae and often, but not always, bordered by a marginal tube. Zoophycos is a burrow with helicoidal spreiten, which is typically a deep-tier trace fossil (Buatois and Mángano, 2013; Buatois et al., 2017).
